what I want now

So, I don't really feel like putting up an outfit post today. Instead, I'm sharing an item of clothing that I really want right now. If only I had a summer job, I'd probably buy it! But as for now, I've spent way to much money this summer to be shopping anymore (if I say that enough, maybe I'll stick to it?)

Ok, to be honest I'm not a huge fan of the photo they have of it (at least for the color I really want, a.k.a. lagoon) but I wanted to show it to you in all it's seafoam-green beauty. Like actually, I just want a shirt that is this color so badly, ever since I tried one on at J.Crew last month (fabric-wise that shirt wasn't quite right, but the color is just divine) . It just feels so fresh and springy (I know, currently we're in summer, but you get what I mean. And for once I want to wear color, so this is pretty new and exciting).

To get an idea of the shirt sans aggravatingly angled photo, here is the shirt in a couple other (still gorgeous!) colors:

american apparel oversized chiffon button-up, $58, colors (top to bottom) lagoon, port, and bone.

Today has been a pretty chill day so far, had pilates in the morning and in the afternoon I just got home from orientation for my internship! For the rest of the summer (only 10 hours a week unpaid but still, it's good experience and something really fun to do with myself!) I will be interning in the International Visitor Leadership Program part of the Minnesota International Center! Basically I help them with office tasks and with proposing and coordinating programs where international professionals come to the United States. It sounds like a lot of fun and can't wait to start. But as for the rest of today, I think I'm going to go over to my friend Mckenna's house and just chill, maybe grab some dinner, we shall see. Hope your Friday is going well and that you have a lovely weekend! xo

entirely new

So, as I said in my last post, Jenny and I spent yesterday afternoon in the mall and I picked up a few new pieces. And I thought to myself this morning, why not wear them all at once? I know, kind of silly, but I get kind of excited when I buy new clothes.

loft button down
vintage necklace
charlotte russe shorts
toms shoes

Silly light in this picture, can't see my necklace - well, it's not one of my new pieces (one of my vintage favorites from Grandma Linda), and I have a detail shot of it farther down. Got Natalie to quickly take some pictures for me (in the backyard, not the alley, since apparently it's been quite bothersome to her that I only take pictures there ^^) before she heads back up to the cabin for a few more days, so I'm going to be quite alone! Aunt Lori is still here with me thankfully, but she's gone most of the days, leaving me the dog and a few cats for company. It's quite sad, and leaves me prone to wasting my time watching TV and reading magazines...

I'm so happy that I bought myself a pair of Toms! I'd been wanting to for awhile but had never gotten around to it. Spending money on shoes has always stressed me out, don't really know why since I've obviously spent more on a shopping trip than the price of those shoes, and it's not like I buy really buy expensive shoes either... some sort of mental block I suppose. Will probably serve me well when I'm older, stop me from spending my savings on Louboutins or something... Regardless, the fact that a child in need gets a pair of shoes because of my purchase definitely helped overcome my qualms. And they're so comfy! Definitely a good purchase

Spent the morning doing garden work then walked up to my eye doctor to fix up my glasses (they have been bothering me forever. They slide down my nose every two seconds! It was the bane of my existence when I was on crutches...) and a fun new pair of sunglasses that Jenny gave me! Since I lost my wayfarers last year on that eventful trip to NYC (if you're new to my blog, feel free to read about it here), I've reallyyy been wanting a new pair but not willing to shell out the money for them again. When I got home for the summer, Jenny remembered that her mom had an old pair (from the 80's I believe?) and brought them over for me! They were wayyy to big for my face so I had to fix them (hence the trip to the eye doctor) but now they fit and are quite fun! They're your typical pair of wayfarers but the top piece is this really cool blue - a bit out there for me, but super fun nonetheless.

That's all for my day. Plan to stay home and catch up on So You Think You Can Dance tonight, should be good. Have a lovely Thursday!

simple summer day

So tonight Jenny, Natalie and I are going to see Britney Spears at the Excel Center! We went to pick up our tickets this morning and they turned out to be pretty good (especially considering we got them 50% on Groupon - her tickets are kind of outrageous). But as for right now we're all pretty casual, in some typical-summer-day outfits. Walked up to Punch for a yummy pizza lunch, then went to the mall where I found some very cute purchases (despite my resolution not to spend much money. Put me in a mall and I'm such a fail...)

hanes tshirt
born sandals
everything else thrifted

Normally I don't like short floral skirts on me - don't ask me why, I've always just felt that way. But Jenny and I were at Ordinary People (a consignment/vintage shop in St. Paul) and we decided that for $10, this was a pretty good pick. And I quite like it! It's a bit short, but I'm a bit taller than average, so what's new.

We went to the flea market in St. Germain (a town near the cabin in Wisconsin) and I picked up these charms and the purse below, which I am so excited about! I saw it and immediately wanted it, then got chastised by my mother for how many little satchels I already own. So I walked away, then ran back about 10 minutes later to buy it - it was only $12. So psyched. And the charms are an old key and a Spelling bee charm, both were $1 apiece, thought they would be fun additions to my collection :)

And here we have Jenny in a crop top from H&M (I only know that because I was there when she bought it, a.k.a. last time we were at the mall). She always forgets that while crop tops may be an ordinary occurrence in L.A., they are not as widely accepted in the Midwest. However, the crop is only minor, and I think she looks adorable. Speaking of things that are not de rigeur in Minnesota, she bought this gorgeous bodysuit at American Apparel! Maybe we'll go out to a club or something and I can take pictures of it for you all, because it's pretty amazing- here is a picture of Megan Fox in it on the cover of Rolling Stone. Jenny, however, plans on wearing it with pants. And has a bit less on top (if she doesn't mind me saying), so it looks much classier on her. Oh, and I'm sure she would want me to mention that Khloe Kardashian has also worn it. A fun purchase I think :)

Ok, now I need to get dressed. We're leaving in about 10 minutes... and I have absolutely no I idea what I'm going to wear. If only I could wear heels! Alas my heel isn't strong enough for that yet. Ok. Really need to go. Have a lovely evening :)

happy fourth of july!

firework

As I am still far far away from my laptop or any cell phone tower, I created a little 4th-of-July themed collage for you on polyvore - red, white, and blue galore, a little something that I probably won't be wearing today (like I actually wear color...). What I will be doing today (assuming the weather is good. Today, a.k.a. Thursday, the weather forecast shows the 4th being beautiful, hope it holds up) is going to the fireman's cookout and eating some delicious corn-on-the-cob, watching the parade - and not getting nearly enough candy. It's tough not being little and cute anymore ^^ - and watching fireworks from the boat later tonight. Hope you are all having an equally fun 4th! Get out, enjoy the hopefully-present sun, watch some fireworks :) Cheers!

ace&jig

Well, as long as we're on the topic of me posting pictures of some of my favorite new brands (as unattainable as they may be on my budget), here is another one I discovered! While reading an article in Elle's July issue on global-conscious, sustainable designers, the name Ace&Jig popped up. This label is designed by Cary Vaughan and Jenna Wilson (a.k.a. the designers behind LaROK), and they produce all their clothing through a textile manufacturer in India that is committed to sustainability and a healthy lifestyle for their workers. After seeing that the picture featured in the magazine was a striped dress (my weakness), I had to look them up. And their spring collection is absolutely adorable! Full of striped tops, skirts and dresses perfect for a breezy summer day.

Adorable, isn't it? If you want to see the whole of their spring/summer 2011 collection, click here.Perfect for a summer picnic, a day at the beach, or a trip up to the cabin... Speaking of the cabin, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say I'm having a good time (I'm writing this a few days in advance so fingers crossed) and assuming I don't re-break my foot waterskiing (just kidding. No way am I going waterskiing this year) I will be back and posting this Wednesday or Thursday! Have a lovely Sunday!

reed krakoff

Ok, can we talk for a bit about how obsessed I am with Reed Krakoff? In all the magazines I've been reading lately, his bags just seems to be everywhere! And you can always tell they're his by that distinctive belt detail around the top. Gorgeous. So anyways, since I'm currently in the Northwoods right about now hopefully enjoying some gorgeous weather out on the lake, here are some photos from his ad campaign/fall 2011 collection (there are photos for the pre-spring 2012 collection here, but that just seems a bit excessive considering we are currently living summer 2011, doesn't it?)

Feel like this just says it all. I mean, look at that bag! The different shades of tan, the black detailing...  Why don't I own this? Oh yeah, it's $1490...

His show was full of amazing outerwear, as was the trend this past fall, but his were especially well-cut and classic I think. And his dresses are gorgeous, though they got a bit of criticism for being too difficult to wear, with the long sleeves and the belting around the hips... still, I've always been one for looser, leggier looks :)

Sooo, this is basically what I want to be wearing this fall! Rich neutrals (with a bit of color thrown in, especially if it's that burgundy dress) with a lot of texture and layers. Speaking of fall textures, why don't I like wool?? I feel like this is going to be a problem for me as I go on through life... Anyways, hope you enjoy, and hope your weekend is going swimmingly! (some swimming would be good too ^^)

super-adequate

This would describe a lot of things today... my outfit (which I would call simple, which is basically just code for "boring" - that's what happens when you're about to get in a car for approximately 5 hours), my friend Elizabeth (her own words, not mine), but most definitely not the weather. It is beyond hot today. Honestly I don't want to leave the house to walk to the car. It's that bad. Ughh

 old navy tshirt
martin&osa shorts
born sandals

So as I said, the weather is pretty horrible today. We spent approximately 2 minutes outside and ran back in. One benefit of the crazy hot weather though is getting to douse my sister with cold water from the hose when she gets back from yoga. Oh so satisfying, especially considering how annoying she was this morning :)

And this is my friend and lovely photographer for the day, Elizabeth. Great photo, right? She let me put it up, don't worry. Normally she makes perfectly normal faces, this was just special for the camera, thanks bud :)

And this is my pretty new purse! Natalie got it for me at an estate sale a while back, and the only problem is that whomever it belonged to before was a smoker, so it smells pretty bad. We've let it sit outside on the porch hoping that the smell would leach out with no luck. So the next step is probably baking soda. Don't want to be carrying around a bag smelling like smoke, people will get the wrong idea...

Ok, so that's about it! Hopefully everyone will get themselves together soon so that we can start driving and avoid the worst of the pre-4th traffic. Fingers crossed, but to be honest I don't have that much faith in Natalie's ability to move quickly... Have a lovely weekend!
