bright colors

Tea n Rose Blouse; J. Crew skirt; Minnetonka Moccasin moccasins

As Nicole was taking these pictures on our way back from the dining hall, she said that they were a bit grainy - now that I'm back in the room and looking through the photos I realize that it is because, once again, we forgot to check the settings before we took the photos. So once again you get some unfortunately-textured pictures (not to fault my lovely photographer and roommate)

But another note - how bright is the shirt I'm wearing right now?! Aren't you all proud? I mean, it was a Christmas present from my sister and I probably would never have taken something that bright off the racks but - as we've seen with my seafoam blouse - give me color in oversized, sheer blouse format and I can't help but like it!

In other news, it was absolutely gorgeous today in DC (as in, 60 degrees gorgeous) and I walked to Safeway for the first time this year! Highlight of the trip? The french bread and nutella I bought for myself - now if only Nicole would get back to the room for our late-night TV-and-snack time, it would be a perfect day! Good night all :)

black and red

James Perse tshirt; Vintage sequin vest; Forever 21 skirt; Frye boots

So what has probably been the busiest week of my life is finally over! I'm back in my room after performing at our campus's AIDS benefit concert (hence the red skirt and shiny vest) and watching a movie before going to bed without setting an alarm for the morning. Yes, I am pretty excited. And guess what? Tomorrow is the one year anniversary of me breaking my foot! Can you believe it's been that long? For those of you who haven't been reading my blog for long, go back into the archives of last spring and take a look at some of the outfit posts with my cast... it's amusing.

But for now, the roommate and I are watching a movie! So good night all, and have a lovely weekend :)

simple stripes

Forever 21 necklace; H&M shirt; American Eagle cardigan; Gap jeans; Mercanti Fiorentini (from DSW) loafers

So, to put it mildly, yesterday was a busy day - went to dinner at 5:30 and didn't get back to my room until 2:00 am. And the worst part is: Nicole and I haven't watched tv together for days. Considering my past three semesters of utter laziness, this is honestly kind of a traumatizing fact.

I wasn't really feeling up to dressing myself this morning, so honestly I just threw this together in like 5 minutes with the usual formula - skinny jeans, flats, cardigan, jewelry... I suppose since I graduated from high school and the requisite pleated navy skirts, this has become my new "uniform" (add in an oversize button down and you have me in a nutshell). But as the weather appears to be improving - did I mention that it snowed this past weekend? It was amazing - I have some ideas for the rest of this week, we shall see...

I think it's the lack of sleep, but I really don't have anything else witty to say - so I suppose I will leave you all with a good night!

Alison makes cute facial expressions

Nordstrom scarf; Target sweater; J. Crew skirt; Frye boots
As you may or may not have noticed, these pictures look slightly different than my usual photos (if you didn't notice the difference in my facial expressions, I'm a little worried/may never blog again). So I wore this outfit approximately a week ago, and loved it so much that I left it out on my desk chair trying to coordinate times with Nicole for a photoshoot until I finally gave up and we snapped a few try 30 pictures in the hallway...

Basically my weekend has been insane, I've been running around like a chicken with my head cut off since approximately 9:00 am Friday. But now Nicole and I are finally back in the room at the same time and watching Glee! So that's all I'm going to say in this post, good night :)

shorts and tights

Saks Fifth Avenue peacoat; Gap scarf and button down; Martin&Osa shorts; Hue socks; Target boots

So these pictures were taken in like 1 minute on my roommate's way to dance, and I accidentally didn't check the camera's setting so sorry for the lovely quality lack thereof - I made her take the photos because a) I'm really a fan of this outfit and b) I haven't posted in forever. But seriously, my life has been insane this past week. Like straight classes, meetings, and rehearsals... not sure what my life is going to look like in the next few weeks, but I can tell you it probably won't be pretty (and by that I mean that it will be crazy, not to say that I won't be pretty - I always am clearly).

Good news though - I've filled out my official paperwork to become an International Economics major! Glad to have that off my plate, and excited for all the classes I'll get to take in the next few years, I can tell you now it's going to be an interesting ride.

And now it's Alison's naptime, so au revoir all!

P.S. Can we just note my face in the second-to-last photo? It's ridiculous. Also, I think I may have re-broken my foot in the first one?

cameos

Today is a review of some of the lovely new jewelry I received for Christmas, all revolving around a simple theme (Can you see it? I'm concerned if you can't) - cameos. Cameos have always been a favorite of mine, despite their definite girliness - something I generally try to avoid, but made up by my love for their vintage patina and the feeling of history they all seem to have. Not sure of the origins of the first two, presents from my grandma and mom, respectively. The earrings (pictured from when I wore them today along with my favorite polka dot blouse) are an old pair of my grandma's I found while ruffling through her boxes of jewelry awhile ago, but to my dismay they were clip-ons. Not anymore! My mom took them in to a jeweler near our house, had them re-tool the earrings as posts, and voila. I really love them, and the little jewel detail sets them apart from all of the more basic cameos I own.

Went through public transportation hell - getting out of the Georgetown neighborhood on the weekends can be a bit difficult, to put it nicely - today to make it to Chinatown for lunch with Colleen today at our favorite Italian restaurant (yes, we go to Chinatown for pasta sometimes) and spent two hours catching up and laughing over copious amounts of carbs, well worth putting off the homework. Except for some reason I don't seem to have any homework? Document this for when I come crying to you about my 19 credit hours later this semester. Really all I have to say.

more hanger outfits

Forever 21 necklace; Kirkland cashmere sweater (thanks dad); J. Crew Skirt; Target boots

So, I've discovered that when outfits are not dresses they are much harder to hang up and photograph in a non-awkward way - I'm sure you didn't get that from the above photo, right? I promise in real life my torso is much longer, since my skirt doesn't start where I hooked it to the hanger, a.k.a approximately where my shoulders should be. I'm really loving the deep greens in this outfit though, and the fun new  piece I picked up at Forever 21 over the break - I find that the few pieces of jewelry I own that don't come from my grandmothers are all ridiculous costume pieces from Forever 21. Not sure how these two tastes really go together (vintage chains, cameos, and... oversize rhinestones?) but I love them both.

Today was a lovely day, once the whole class part of it was over - I still maintain that two hours of Russian on Fridays will be the death of me. But then I went out to a lovely pasta dinner with the girls, baked a funfetti cake, and watched The Devil Wears Prada. So many amazing clothes! Makes me wish it was actually that easy to get a job in the fashion industry, and that I would really have that many designer clothes if I ever happened to get said job... Ah well, such is life. Have a good night,

post-christmas clothes

... Help, maybe? My post-Christmas closet - I mean, having too many clothes is not the worst problem a girl could have. A small closet, on the other hand, can be quite an issue

J. Crew dress; Gap scarf and boots

Until Saturday I am roommate-less, therefore you will all have to content with me hanging my outfits up (in case you were wondering, tights don't hang that nicely, that's why they aren't here - it's not like it was 70 in D.C. or anything that nice) and taking unfortunate in-room photos. I'm really a fan of this outfit though! The dress is the same one I wore out to dinner with my friends a few weeks ago and the boots and scarf are some sale pieces picked up from Gap right before I came back. They're both so comfortable! Seriously, the scarf is like cashmere, and the boots are shearling - it's quite lovely.

Still suffering from post-wisdom teeth pain, still not feeling like rambling on oh-so-wittily I hope about my life. So this is all. Good night!

P.S. I'm adding this little signature to the end of my posts, with the new year I want to show a little love - a heart, if you will - to my all my readers (I hope I have a few besides my mom and my roommate) because, really, I so appreciate you stopping by once and a while to check out what I'm writing! So please continue, and thank you :)

goodbye home

Vintage cardigan, ring, and bracelet; H&M dress; Nordstrom scarf; Sorel boots

Mom shrunk my cardigan. I know, I know, it was so oversize to begin with you probably won't believe me when I say that I bought it when it was bigger. But I really do love oversize sweaters. Oh well, the good thing about it being super-oversized to start with is that post-shrinking, it's still pretty oversized.

One of my pretty new pieces of loot from Grandma's house this break - isn't costume jewelry just the best? I love how sparkly it is, it just brightens up anything you wear. And you should see all the jewelry I've picked up this break! When it comes to jewelry hand-me-downs, I really am a spoiled girl...

Glad I can finally put up a real outfit post! Last day before I go home but better late than never I guess? There isn't much in my head that's witty right now, probably it's all the post-surgery painkillers, so I will just bid you all bon nuit :)
