OOTD: Shirtdress

So I know, normally I don't do headless shots. But today I just couldn't find any good straight-on photos, but I still wanted to show off my outfit. So here you go. Regardless, I really liked my outfit today, but, alas, there was no time to take outside photos. Here is my inside photo-shoot...

So today was pretty chill. I got up and had breakfast, went to Russian, got my quiz back - I was not mentally prepared to get it back yet, as we always have a few days turnover, but thankfully I did well :) Did some homework and chilled in between classes, then had a lovely little discussion in French on historical laws and conventions.

After dinner, I had an interview for a family that I might babysit for! Actually, it wasn't really an interview more of a "Hello, meet the family, when would you like to start working?" I think they really want to get back to their normal lives, and I don't blame them, I kind of feel the same way, as October is shaping up to be kind of a crazy month. Regardless, the good news is that it looks like I am going to have a job! I didn't want anything too overwhelming, so I think this is going to be just perfect, and their daughter seems adorable.

Post-interview/meeting, Nicole and I made some (legit) popcorn on the stove - another girl I know from the floor came in and when she saw the popcorn maker (and me complaining that it doesn't work as well as the one at home) she asked me where I was from. So I said Minnesota. And she laughed a little and said "of course you are" - I seem to be getting a lot of that lately. Don't really know what it means, but at least I've been told I don't have the accent :)

Another lovely day today, and it's supposed to rain tomorrow! Why am I excited? Can't wait to road-test my new rain boots... Have a good night :)

New Purchases!

Sooo, I was kind of tired from life this morning so I put together a completely uninspiring look of a tshirt and jeans. And flip flops. I know, don't judge, it doesn't happen that often :)

So now you all get to see what I bought over the weekend!

Black dress from forever 21; other two from necessary clothing

I love these dresses! I've always loved the banded dress thing, but have never been brave enough to try it. But I decided to try on the black dress at forever 21 just for fun, and we (Beth and I) loved it too much to let it go - the back has some sheer panels alternating too near the top, soo adorable! And the other two are good easy dresses, but I think I could easily dress up the purple one (and probably the patterned one too, for that matter) for a night out

from left to right: forever 21, necessary clothing, uniqlo

I am in love with this first skirt! I wore it in my first outfit photo in for New York, Part II, and it is beyond cute. It's a tiny bit small since I had to buy it in a small, but it is worth it. I think of it as my incentive to stay healthy. And the middle one is another take on the banded look (I know, from 0 to 60 right?). But I tried it on with the white tshirt and chunky necklace I was wearing at the time and it was cute just like that, and so I thought why not? And the third is kind of a fun take on the leather trend, with the flouncy layers. Should be fun to play with...

necessary clothing; forever 21

The top on the left from necessary clothing is in the second half of my post for New York Part II. I love the little foxes! And the pocket and interesting back are so great, but thankfully don't necessitate any different undergarments :) And the second top is just so simple and chic I couldn't resist...

So there you have it, my purchases from my NYC weekend - I can't wait to wear them all! In case you were wondering, I had my Russian quiz that I was complaining about yesterday, and I think that it went well! We will see when I get it back later this week...

My family is coming a week from today! I can't wait, it has been sooo long since I saw them last. And my sister will be staying the night with me, which will be so much fun! Also, they are bringing with them my birthday present from my Grandma since it couldn't be shipped, and I can't wait to get it!

It feels like it's a Monday, but it's a Tuesday! Doesn't get better than that, does it?

New York, Part III (The End)

As I'm writing this, I'm back in my dorm in D.C. Kind of sad, but kind of ready to get a good night's sleep in what has sort of become my own bed.

Not the best picture of me, but it shows our adventure from last night - cupcake baking! Another friend of mine from MN who goes to Fordham (but at the other campus in the Bronx) came up to visit Beth and I, and after getting dinner at the little 24-hour cafe again, we decided we wanted to make cupcakes! Of course we had no oil, eggs, cupcake pan, or mix - so we went to the grocery store and mass hilarity ensued as we tried to find the funfetti cupcake mix hidden behind all the rest of the (precariously balanced) mixes. It was quite fun. By this time I was beyond tired, so when they accompanied Shelah back to her campus to make sure she got home safe, I crawled into Beth's bed and proceeded to sleep until 11:30 the next morning. It was lovely.

Breakfast at Magnolia Bakery! I feel bad for Beth, it must be difficult having such an amazing bakery this close, she must go waaaay too often :) Here she is with her healthy breakfast of a devil's food cupcake - I opted for a muffin, but only because I bought a cupcake for the road...

And here I am, back in my own room, post-megabus ordeal #2. I must say, this one was not nearly as bad as the first, but still not very enjoyable. The bust left about half an hour late, and this is because they filled up the first bus and sent it off, then packed the rest of us onto a little coach bus. It didn't have wifi like the last one which was disappointing, but it did have working overhead lights which was quite nice once the sun went down (I purposefully bought my ticket so that I would get back when the sun was still up so as to appease my parent's - and my own - wish for extra safety, but considering that the bus was late that didn't happen. oh well). Now I am back in my room and procrastinating from studying for Russian. I should probably go do that now. Ugh. Then I will get some sleep. Yay!

Hope everyone had an amazing weekend, and the good news is that now we only have four more days until the next!

New York, Part II

big it up hat; topshop necklace; h&m shirt; jcrew cardigan; forever 21 skirt; black tights; h&m flats

Two photos from last night - though I think these were technically taken very early this morning :) Last night we went to go see one of the school's shows, and it was amazing! Afterward we walked to Times Square to go see The Social Network - it was the most amazing theater ever! It's New York, so I guess since you can't build out you build up, and it just kept going up! It was so much fun. I'm in love with the skirt I'm wearing - I ended up buying it in a small even though it's a bit tight because it was the last one in the store and I love it soooo much! The pearls around the waistband and the flounciness of the skirt are just great

This morning we got tea! Beth and her friends found this adorable little Alice in Wonderland-themed tea house near their school, and she took me for a little brunch. We got sandwiches and crepes, and obviously some tea. The tea pots had these adorable little contraptions that held the top  on and prevented dripping (middle photo), and the tables were like singer sewing machines with little treadles on the bottom (bottom photo) that kept me amused all meal :) It was adorable!

Afterward we walked around Central Park for a few hours - the Belvedere Castle, the Shakespeare Garden, the boat pond, the Alice in Wonderland statue... it was all so gorgeous! There are lots of people, but it still feels removed from the city, like it's own little world. I really love this city, I think I need to come back more often and visit...

We also made a little visit to the Met, which is just as gorgeous as ever. The Impressionist paintings are my favorite, and they have an amazing collection! Van Gogh, Monet, Manet, Pissaro (my personal favorite - there is a room filled with his paintings, I could sit there for hours), you could get lost in that maze of little rooms! We got hot dogs and cokes and sat in the park, then walked our way back - now we are taking a much-needed rest in her dorm room before meeting up with another girl from high school in Minnesota who goes to Fordham! Who knows what we will do then, but oh well, sleep when you're dead :)

Yet another gorgeous day, hope everyone got outside and enjoyed the sunshine :)

New York, Part 1

topshop necklace
hanes tshirt

gap jeans
h&m flats

Yay for photo shoots in Central Park! This was our first stop of the morning (or rather early afternoon - it was a late night last night). Speaking of last night let me tell you about my horrendous megabus experience. I got on the bus at 6:30, was supposed to get there at 10:50. When did I actually get to the bus stop? Around 12:20. Yeah. And that's not all - our megabus apparently doesn't have working overhead lights, so I couldn't read after about 7:00 because the sun had gone down at it was pitch black. And I got grab n go from the dining hall but it was gross, so all I had was an apple, a cookie, and a bag of chips (and the last meal I had was at 2). So I was hungry, tired, and slightly claustrophobic. Needless to say that was not the best experience of my life. But I got here, and it's been such a good time - definitely worth it in the end :)

A little schedule of my last 24 hours or so:

12:30 am - In the city! Wander around to find Beth and her friend Brian, who came to meet me, then some bread at her apartment (she went and got me real french bread, it made my day ^^)
The living room of her apartment (and my bed, over there on the couch ^^). How lucky is she!? An apartment freshman year? Spoiled :)

2:00 am - food at the Flame! Apparently they often to go
to this little cafe open 24 hours a day. I hadn't eaten a real meal since 2 in the afternoon, so I was hungry. I got french toast :)

4:00 am - finally bed time

11:30 am - out of the apartment, in the city! Walking around central park, seeing her campus

So Fordham's Lincoln Center campus is basically one building, but they have the greatest green spaces! They have several little gardens, and I really like this little trellis

1:00-5:30 - Shopping in Soho (I got so much cute stuff! Can't wait to show you photos), cupcake from the Cupcake Stop van (cookie dough cupcake = soooo good) and lunch at Dos Caminos, a tasty little Mexican restaurant with ah-mazing guacamole

My dream workplace. Hearst, can I have an internship please? I mean, I don't live here or anything, but that's not an issue, is it?

Tonight we plan and going to see the Social Network, and tomorrow probably the Met! I wasn't sure what I thought of the city from the last few times I had visited, but I'm really loving it! There's something fun about being able to explore the city on your own, doing whatever you want with no one to watch over you. I kind of like it :)

Hope everyone is having a great long weekend!

OOTD: Black and Gold

Ok, perhaps it should be black and khaki - but I really love that song and just wanted to quote it in my title :) I really like combining black and khaki, it just seems so put-together, don't you think?

Nicole and I had an adventure taking photos this afternoon! It is goorrgeeouss in DC today, in the 70s and sunny, so I suggested we go to this fire escape! Homecoming weekend we had seen it while looking for a good vantage point to see the football game and were this close to climbing it, until we saw some man standing up a few levels, and we thought maybe we shouldn't try it. But we decided that some day we would climb this fire escape - and today we did! It was quite an adventure, until we saw some guy in a golf cart looking at us and decided that it would be a good time to leave... fun times :)

And some photos of my lovely photographer Nicole! I really like the dress she is wearing today.

So funny story about Nicole. She gets like no sleep. She goes to bed around 3 every morning I think and gets up around 8:30 or so to eat breakfast with me. So last night she decided to take a nap. At 7 I knocked on her door since we had plans to get dinner. I knocked several times, left a few texts, and after no answer (I didn't know she was napping at the time), I just went to dinner with a friend who was already there. About 10 minutes after I got back, I hear a knock on my door and a bleary-eyed Nicole asked if I had gotten her up for dinner. Yes Nicole, I tried. Then I sent her a text later that night asking if she wanted to get breakfast at the normal time, and as there was no response either way I decided to go knock on her door at 9:30 to see if she was coming to breakfast - her roommate answered the door and said she was sleeping. So I went with her roommate to breakfast. Sooo, basically she slept through two consecutive meals she was supposed to have with me! Oh well, I suppose she needed her sleep. It was just an amusing turn of events :)

I'm going to New York tomorrow! I can't wait - I'm trying to get a fair amount of homework done before I leave, and some I can do on the bus, but I just want to get there and enjoy myself. I want to shop, go out to eat, and go to museums. It's going to be such a fun change of pace. And after that, my family coming, and then my friend from California is coming... I am just going to be so busy! But I'm looking forward to it :)

I'm going to go out and enjoy the weather, perhaps go read on the lawn? Enjoy your afternoon!

OOTD: No Rain Boots Today

It didn't even look like rain for the majority of the day, so I felt like I would have looked like a tool wearing my rain boots. On the plus side, I got to wear my suede boots, which I love but can't wear in the rain

I was marveling at the cleanliness and openness of this stairway! We didn't feel like walking somewhere out of the building, but we also didn't feel like trying to take pictures on the main stairway because of all the traffic - these stairs literally serve no purpose other than as a fire exit (and I suppose for going between levels if you feel so inclined, but you can't exit from the building from them) so they are rarely used and sooo much nicer! Probs you will be seeing more of them as the weather gets colder and we don't want to venture around campus. We shall see.

I got a free cupcake today! After breakfast Nicole and I walked over to Georgetown Cupcake, where they have 100 of their secret flavor of the day for free, and we got one! I'm worried this may become a habit, as they are so close and I don't have class until 11 more often than not. help! :)

It's been a pretty chill day. After Russian and lunch I came back to my room, ate my cupcake and read Marie Claire. Oh how I love my magazines! Such a lovely break from reading economics or french politics :) Regardless, I have a french presentation on Friday which I'm a bit stressed for. I wrote it today though, so all that's left is to practice and familiarize myself some more with the subject. Wish me luck!

Tonight is the design run for the play that I am assistant props designer for! I'm excited to see the show, since the production staff and the cast don't seem to interact that much so I literally have no idea how it is going to turn out! That will be most of my evening, but as I don't really have that much homework anyways, I'm looking forward to it... kind of like I'm looking forward to going to NYC this weekend! Except that "looking forward to" would be an understatement - I can't wait!! It's going to be so much fun to see a friend from high school - not to mention all of the shopping and cavorting around the city! Only a few more days...

I am hungry. So I'm going to go get dinner now... Have a lovely evening!
