work work work

Unlike the title of this post, GIVEAWAYS aren't any work at all! All you do is follow me (which you'd do anyways, right? I thought so) and comment on that post - click on that little link there and you're on your way.

One of my favorite little necklace-charms. Doesn't it kind of give everything a vintagey feel? I think it's the brassiness of it... And of course, below is my favorite brown leather belt. And as my new favorite, extra cheap pants seem to have a bit too much stretch in them, it is much needed.

Worked my first 8 hour shift today! Can't say it was super exciting, especially since I had to get there at 7:30 am (a.k.a. over 3 hours before we even open) but it was a good experience, which I suppose is good since I get to repeat it on Wednesday (and Saturday...). The only unfortunate thing about today's shift was the fact that for most of it I had to be a greeter. You know, that person who stands at the front of the store and welcomes you and talks up store promotions to you? Yeah, that was me. And I am now convinced that is where they put sales associates to punish them. Or to die, I don't know which. Regardless, having to welcome every single person that came through our doors, as well as try to spit out my spiel in the 10 seconds during which they absentmindedly passed me by, looking vaguely annoyed at my presence, was not the best experience in my life. Make me denim expert again please? That I was good at. Oh well, tomorrow and Tuesday is back to interning, should be a chill couple of days. Hope everyone had a lovely weekend!

cheapest pants ever

Before I get into the insane cheapness of these pants, don't forget about my GIVEAWAY! You know the drill, click on that little link there.

So, guess how much I paid for these pants. I'm going to go ahead an guess your guess wasn't low enough - $0.97! Perhaps I've inherited some of my mother's sale ninja skills after all?

Now, I'm sure you're all saying, "Well, she works at Old Navy, so of course she got those pants on a good sale! Not a sale ninja at all..." - however, you would be wrong. Not about the me working at Old Navy part, but the me getting a discount on the pants due to me status as an employee. Long story short, the manager was acting like a small child and insisted that not only can I not use my discount without an employee card, but I should also go tell my manager (who told me I could) that she was wrong. Let's just forget I already used my discount at a Banana Republic and they were perfectly fine with it? Whatever. I'm going back to my store to return the shoes (a great pair of fall brown wedges) and buy them with my discount. So there.

My poor shoes, falling apart, working so hard. And my toes aren't even showing today, even though my nails are nice now, unlike here - wait, why am I showing that?! Slightly embarrassing picture to post as a fashion blogger. I promise to be better groomed from now on... On another note, doesn't my necklace look like a bejeweled pringle? That's what I see every time I look at it. And I love it! Probably my new favorite pendant, another little gift from my Grandma down in Iowa. Aren't grandmas just a treasure trove for interesting things? Love you grandma

Today was another day at the office (Minnesota International Center, to be specific), nothing particularly eventful. Except me forgetting a fiber bar. You may think that sounds silly, but it was intense! I'm there for 5 hours so I eat breakfast in the morning and a late lunch when I get home, then bring a snack to tide me over in the middle. Add that to the traffic on the way home, and I was pretty much hysterical. It was a bit embarrassing, to be honest. But since then I've gotten some peanut butter toast into my system, so I'm doing ok. No worries. Hope you all had a lovely Monday!

sunny day

I know! It's weird! For those of you not in Minnesota, the title of this post may seem normal for a summer day. However, for those of us currently living under the overcast, rain-filled skies of my lovely state, this is quite an improvement. Sunny and in the 70's! Can't ask for any more. However, I am still wearing pants, as I had an interview today and wanted to look presentable.

So my interview today was at Old Navy, and it was stressful! It was one of those group interviews where they ask you all questions then expect you to chime in with answers - talking over people and chiming in not being my forte. Oh well, it's good practice, and I got to come up with a cute outfit made up of Old Navy clothes! (I thought it would be nice if I came in wearing their clothing, who knows if they noticed)

Look at me smoldering there... no, not actually that's just what I said upon first seeing my (very special) facial expression in this photo. Now I'm mostly just seeing my red cheeks. Oh the downside of the heat. And genes from my mother. Such is life

Once again, my poor shoes! I think they're falling apart more now then the last time I showed them. Perhaps it's time to take a black marker to them, see if I could color in those spots on the toes? Couldn't hurt.

Sorry for the blurry photo. The necklace is from our most recent family trip to the Virgin Islands, specifically from the day we spent on St. Johns. I saw a lot of the little key motif in the jewelery stores, and decided to pick one up. It's just so cute and dainty.

Don't really have much to say about today, besides my interview it was fairly uneventful... Made myself a pizza, does that count as interesting? Probably not... well then, I will bid you all adieu for today's post. Have a lovely evening!

p.s I haven't done one of these for awhile, but I had a lot of photos from today that I liked, so I thought why not?

my new stalker

I got my cousin Caitlin, who's visiting us from Iowa for the weekend, to take a few pictures for me (more like 50... sometimes it's just difficult to find something that's attractive). However she wasn't really warming to the idea - apparently she felt creepy following me around with a camera and snapping random pictures?

We just wandered the neighborhood for a bit, getting eaten by mosquitoes and traipsing into the neighbor's yard (don't worry, I know them and babysit for their children all the time ^^). On another note, my poor black flats are falling into pieces! If you look closely at the picture below you can see at the toes where the black part of them is starting to fall off. Oh well, I guess that's what you get for buying $13 flats from H&M...

The large stick we found on the ground, a.k.a my "inspiration for the shoot" - I think Caitlin has a budding career in photography don't you? But actually, she did do a good job. If you read this (which you apparently only do when really bored...), thanks bud :)

So today was another lazy, jobless summer day! I got up, made myself an omelette (ham and cheese - I was going to add spinach and tomatoes, but the absence of spinach just made vegetables seem futile), went to pilates, read on the porch (Never Let Me Go, I would recommend it, both the  movie and the book, they're amazing), fell asleep on the porch which I would not recommend, it gives you a crick in your neck, and ate lunch.
We just got home from Midnight in Paris, the newest Woody Allen movie -  I thought it was cute! I love Paris, and all the 1920's literary references were lots of fun. Natalie hated the ending and Caitlin hated, well, the entire thing, but I didn't think it was that bad. Not absolutely amazing but worth seeing once. And Marion wore some beautiful 20's dresses. So there.

Oh, and I went to the Rihanna concert last night! Colleen and I bought cheap nosebleed tickets then jammed out to the show and laughed at the drunk girls in front of us. Gotta say it was a pretty good time, definitely worth the $10. And that is all.

P.S. I redid the layout to my blog. Do you like it? I just felt the need for a more stream-lined, clean look. I was up into the wee hours trying to make it just perfect, and now I really like it! Hope you do too :)
