busy life

This is an apology post, as it's been over a week since I last put something up on the blog. If it makes a difference, I've had my reasons - I was sick all last weekend, culminating in my visit to the always-lovely Student Health Center on Monday, where I was tested for mono and strep (considering how much better I'm feeling now, I'm going to say they're negative, but it was pretty bad there for awhile).

Dressing well wasn't exactly happening, as me getting out of bed was a task in itself. It was skinny jeans and a tshirt for a few days, but now that I'm home I plan to start being a real person and putting thought into what I wear again! But just to remind you all that I still exist, here are a few photos from when Nicole and I had our roommate date to the ballet last Friday:

Guess leather jacket; Zara dress; Forever 21 necklace; Coach bag; Old Navy flats

Sorry that you've already seen this outfit before, in light of my sickness I was in bed until right about 5 minutes before we left, then put on the first nice outfit I could think of (pet peeve: people who don't dress nicely for the theater, it's the worst right?)

We started with an extra-classy dinner at Chipotle (we were feeling like tacos, no judgement), then walked down the waterfront to the Kennedy Center where we saw a beautiful production of Snow White - with costumes designed by Jean Paul Gaultier, so basically it was magical! Then we walked down to Founding Farmers, a really cool restaurant near George Washington University, and got a late dessert with their "Mousse Bowl for Two." And by two, they meant approximately four (see photo of me looking defeated with the half-eaten bowl).

The only sad part was that I was sick and couldn't stay up to watch a full movie afterward, but otherwise it was a lovely evening with my even-lovelier roommate :)

Hope you're all having a great week, I'm glad to be back!

the end of hats

Romeo and Juliet Couture cardigan; Zara tshirt; Vintage necklace; J. Crew belt; Banana Republic shorts; Toms

With the weather getting warmer every day, how much longer will I be able to wear my sweaters, my variuos copious pairs of boots, or my oversized sweaters? It is a serious concern. You see, to be honest, when I can't layer (as so often happens in the summertime), I just don't know what to wear! Without the cardigan and floppy hat, what is this outfit? A t-shirt and shorts. That's it.  And where's the fun in that?

So yeah. I'm really tired and can't think of anything else to write about. Went to the midnight premier of The Hunger Games last night, got into bed around 4 am, then got up at 8:30 for 3 or so hours of classes... It's been a rough morning. So on that note, I'm done! Have a lovely weekend all :)

sparkles and lace

Zara dress; Forever 21 necklace; Banana Republic tights and flats

Lots of detail shots, not many showing my face - Natalie wasn't the best at capturing the few normal facial expressions I managed to put on tonight while taking photos. However, finally got to wear my adorable lace dress we got on our trip to Canada!  I have to say, it's a bit shorter than I remember. Of course, all dresses I wear are short...

And speaking of hemlines, we picked up a few professional-looking pieces at Banana Republic today for my internship this summer, and I've discovered I don't do well with longer hemlines. Literally the closer something gets to my knee, the weirder I feel about it. Unfortunately, my practically-a-shirt sundresses that are oh-so-lovely and breezy in the summer won't really work in a business environment. Sigh. Also sigh, tomorrow is my last day at home! I can't believe how quickly spring break has gone by (and how horribly I've done at posting during it). And alas, my first week back at school will be absolutely insane, so chances of me actually posting regularly? Slim. Promise I'll try my best though - good night!

new dress

So it's been forever since I last posted, and unfortunately it not going to get better - my wisdom teeth are coming out tomorrow and surprisingly, I don't think I'm going to be that cute for the surgery. But I just got back from Canada and a ski trip with my family, and got an adorable dress in Vancouver! Here it is:

Our hotel was right off Robson street, one of the big shopping areas in Vancouver. I picked up this adorable, surprisingly comfortable lace dress at Zara, and Natalie got the perfect Betsy Johnson dress for her winter dance at probably the best sale price ever. Overall it was a pretty successful shopping outing and a great ski trip! Send good vibes to me tomorrow morning as I get my wisdom teeth out?

I like to ignore the weather forecast

So Nicole and I have discovered today that apparently we think we are immune to the weather - it's not that we don't pay attention to it, we just disregard it. We wake up in the morning, check the weather and see that it will be 50 and possibly rainy. So what do we do? Wear skirts without tights, clearly.

My suitcase... because I'm going home tomorrow morning... Can't wait! Also, sorry these photos are cropped so horribly and are such disparate sizes. I'm dying inside a little too.

Regardless of the slightly inclement weather today, I think this outfit worked out rather well! This cardigan is oh-so-cozy, and of course this tshirt is probably the comfiest thing to ever exist - so glad that the freshman me made that decision 5 or so years ago to buy the oddly-oversized shirt (probably her first oversized piece ever) at Zara in Italy...

And this photos is me saying, "Sorry I'm too lazy to go outside and take real photos... Sorry you can see my shower flip flops and old Nordstrom bag in the background... This is awkward" - did you get all of that from the photo?

Pretending that photo never existed Regardless, I'm going home, I'm going home, I'm going home! In less than twelve hours may I add.

Also, I'm such a horrible blogger! So to update you on my life: Saturday I went to see my roommate from last year in her dance show, then had a movie night with the girls and ate some amazing gluten-free red velvet cheesecake that my friend Jessi baked (perfect complement to 500 Days of Summer, I think - actually, perfect complement to any aspect of my life?). Sunday was chill, I just went to yoga, did some work, had a capella practice in the afternoon... And today was my last day of classes before break! Also, Harmony (of the aforementioned practice) sang at the Lombardi Cancer Center today, which was so much fun - I love performing, and bringing some joy to the patients was really great. Overall, a good day!

Oh, and its my roommate's birthday in approximately 28 minutes... so happy early birthday Nicole! :)

lace

zara tshirt
vintage lace vest
thrifted bracelet
gap jeans
minnetonka moccasins
thrifted coach satchel

I really thought I'd gotten into a thing, doing these every other day posts... apparently not so much. And I looked so cute yesterday! I wore this adorable shirtdress my mom got me from J.Crew and my Frye boots (which would be a much-appreciated change I'm sure, since I believe all you've seen me in lately is moccasins - promise I don't wear them every day)

Found this bejeweled little piece at a thrift store in Fort Collins, Colorado (when I was helping Mckenna move back to school at the end of the summer). I think it may actually be a choker - quite the trendy piece nowadays, not sure if I'll be participating regardless... much prefer it as a wrap bracelet.

I showed this vest earlier this summer, only as a crop top, a la Natalie - not sure if I could pull of the same look, as I am lacking the rock-hard yoga abs... She actually also wore it for her senior pictures, which I must say are absolutely gorgeous! I might just have to pick my favorites (if that's possible) and put them up in a post so that you can all marvel at them yourselves. Funny anecdote: as we were getting ready for Natalie's senior pictures - a.k.a picking out like 5 outfits from all of our closets, filling up the car with props, driving out to our uncle's horse farm, I remembered my senior pictures. Which were basically "Alison grab a few shirts from your closet, we'll go wander the yard and figure something out" - notice a difference? Oh well, photoshoots are more Natalie's thing. Which is why I'm the one with a blog?

Can't believe that one week from tomorrow I'll be in NYC and that two weeks from tomorrow my mom will be here in D.C. with me! October is most definitely going to be a good month... Good night all!

P.S. You may notice that this post, unlike my others, is completely devoid of text formatting. Not saying I like it, but I'll try anything once. You're welcome Emily :)

summer has arrived?

I'm really skeptical about saying this (knock on wood), but it's supposed to be actually warm and sunny for the rest of the week and I'm excited! It only took the whole of June, but it's finally warm. Mom, Natalie and I went on walks outside, ate an outdoor lunch with my Aunt Susan, and we had dinner on the porch. Altogether a lovely day :)

Sooo, my photos aren't as cute today as they were yesterday (as I'm sure you can all tell). I could blame it on my mother, who took photos today instead of Natalie, but that wouldn't be fair. There are days when you just aren't photogenic, you know? Those are the days when you just shouldn't be taking photos of yourself - not really ideal when you have a blog though :)

Ignore my chipped nail polish. Ugh. So I found these sandals up in the closet where a bunch of my stuff got shoved after I left for college, and I kind of like them! When I first saw them I wasn't sure if I thought they were cute, or old-ladyish. But after some careful reflection (more like lots of time staring at myself in the mirror) I have decided I like them! And most importantly, they are "supportive" (my favorite word you know...)

Cute little bow on my shirt - this one is another discovery from the upstairs closet. Jenny gave it to me years ago and, to be honest, it had too many frills on it for my taste. So, I cut a few tassels and such off, then gave it a try, and I quite like it now!

So tomorrow is a crazy busy day for me! I have the dentist, a foot doctor appointment (just a check-up, so wish me luck. Today was the 5-month anniversary of the injury, so you'd think all would be well), an internship interview (once again, some positive vibes would be appreciated ^^) pilates, then my sister's choir's Bon Voyage concert! As I'm sure you remember, her choir (my old one from high school) is going to Australia this summer - sooo jealous. But I still haven't seen them in concert since I left, so even though I have pilates until 7 (a.k.a. when the concert starts), I'm going to rush over to see them! Should be a fun day, mom and I are hoping to sneak in a lunch at Patricks between the doctor and my interview (he has the absolute best desserts). That's about all for the evening, and as my mother is most likely frosting the cake she baked as we speak, I'm going downstairs! Good night :)
