busy life

This is an apology post, as it's been over a week since I last put something up on the blog. If it makes a difference, I've had my reasons - I was sick all last weekend, culminating in my visit to the always-lovely Student Health Center on Monday, where I was tested for mono and strep (considering how much better I'm feeling now, I'm going to say they're negative, but it was pretty bad there for awhile).

Dressing well wasn't exactly happening, as me getting out of bed was a task in itself. It was skinny jeans and a tshirt for a few days, but now that I'm home I plan to start being a real person and putting thought into what I wear again! But just to remind you all that I still exist, here are a few photos from when Nicole and I had our roommate date to the ballet last Friday:

Guess leather jacket; Zara dress; Forever 21 necklace; Coach bag; Old Navy flats

Sorry that you've already seen this outfit before, in light of my sickness I was in bed until right about 5 minutes before we left, then put on the first nice outfit I could think of (pet peeve: people who don't dress nicely for the theater, it's the worst right?)

We started with an extra-classy dinner at Chipotle (we were feeling like tacos, no judgement), then walked down the waterfront to the Kennedy Center where we saw a beautiful production of Snow White - with costumes designed by Jean Paul Gaultier, so basically it was magical! Then we walked down to Founding Farmers, a really cool restaurant near George Washington University, and got a late dessert with their "Mousse Bowl for Two." And by two, they meant approximately four (see photo of me looking defeated with the half-eaten bowl).

The only sad part was that I was sick and couldn't stay up to watch a full movie afterward, but otherwise it was a lovely evening with my even-lovelier roommate :)

Hope you're all having a great week, I'm glad to be back!

the weather lies

Guess jacket; Banana Republic scarf and sweater; Gap jeans; Target boots; Coach bookbag; Vintage ring

So, apparently it's not spring. The weather last week? Just a cruel joke to make us all thing that it would be summer soon, when really, it's not. At all. Today, it was boots, jacket, and scarf weather. Is that not what I wanted? Maybe. But now that I have it back again, I'm missing my sunny, napping-on-the-lawn weather.

Wow. Nicole and I are watching Gilmore Girls right now and I really can't focus. So, I guess that's it? Good night all.

leather jacket

Splendid tshirt; Guess leather jacket; Scarf stolen from Beth (or rather, she left it here and I'm taking care of it in her absence); Gap jeans; Coach satchel; Minnetonka Moccasin moccasins

I'm in love with my new jacket! I've actually owned a leather jacket for years now, one I picked up at a consignment shop back in Minnesota and always told myself I'd wear, but had never managed to take off its hanger. I'd convinced myself I just wasn't a leather jacket person (much to the dismay of my visiting friend Beth, as they are pretty much all she wears) - until I put this one on. It's perfect! It's soft, it's surprisingly warm, and it's just the right amount of slouchy to fit in just right with my look. Yay for visiting friends giving me an excuse to explore the city and find new shopping gems.

Beth got on her bus back to NYC this morning, and although I'm sad that the weekend is ending (we had a blast), I think if the visit had gone any longer we would have both dropped dead from lack of sleep. As I'm typing this, sitting in a room for Economics tutoring (gotta love it when no one comes and I can just do work procrastinate) I can barely keep my eyes open. And I already took two naps today. Good news is I have less than two weeks until Spring break! California here I come and, I suppose in the more immediate future (as in right now), Comparative Political Systems readings here I come... Have a good night all :)

new york, take 2

So my previous post was titled "new york, take 2," as this last weekend in New York was my second time visiting Beth at Fordham. But my roommate got confused and was wondering where "new york, take 1" was - so I just changed it to take 1, and here you have take 2, with photos of Beth and I in Times Square

Ok so lot's of Beth's outfit is from our shopping excursion on Saturday, so I feel pretty confident id'ing most of her pieces - the dress is from my new favorite thrift store AuH20 in the East Village (so jealous that Beth can now go there whenever she wants), the necklace is from the street fair we wandered Sunday afternoon, and her bag (it's like a mini-me of my bag!) and shoes are from Cure, another thrift store in the village - we just might have done a bit of damage in the Village Saturday afternoon?

I have to say I am loving her leather jacket though, right? I own a leather jacket and never seem to wear it, but Beth definitely rocks hers. We looked very chic out on the town together.

beret from Canada? (I know, super-specific)
vintage necklace
h&m dress and flats
coach bag
thrifted button down (tied to bag - Sunday was quite warm!)

Can we talk about how much I love this necklace?  It's one of my finds from my new favorite store, and even though it was the most expensive thing either of us bought there at $24 - and Beth even bought a Burberry sweater - I couldn't resist. It's vintage-y, it's sparkly, it's chunky.... what else is there in a necklace?

Ok, that's a lot of photos for you all to digest and Nicole really wants me to stop writing so that we can watch the Lying Game - so that's all for this post! Perhaps tomorrow I will inundate you with pictures of New York food, or maybe show off my new purchases? Choices... Hope you all had an amazing weekend!
