jailbird

J. Crew dress; Beth's scarf (I'm sure she's loving seeing how much wear it gets down here now that she's left it behind...); Minnetonka Moccasin boots

So I was looking at all the pictures of this outfit and I was struck by how many stripes there were! It kind of reminded me of a prison uniform (hence the title)... but in the best way possible is there really a good way to be reminded of prison? Regardless, I'd been waiting for a good opportunity to wear these boots, and today seemed as good a day as any. Note their usage with a dress, not pants, as that makes my legs look less stumpy. These descriptions of myself are getting less and less attractive. I should really stop trying to explain the thought processes beyond my outfits.

All I really have to say about my life right now is that I can't wait for spring break. Like seriously. It's been so long since I last saw my family, or just spent the whole day doing absolutely nothing... it's going to be a lovely week. Only three more days to survive and I'll be there! Good night all :)

long week

H&M button down; Gap sweater; Vintage necklaces; Target skirt; Minnetonka Moccasin moccasins

Gotta love having three different pairs of moccasins...especially when the sole of your right brown one literally starts to disconnect itself from the rest of shoe (on a side note does that keep me from wearing them? Of course not). So this is my outfit yesterday, and I think it worked well despite the gale-force winds that kept me in perpetual fear of flashing passerby on my way to class. That being said, who doesn't love a good pleated skirt? The throwback to high school always makes me nostalgic.

I would love to write bore you more with stories of my life, but I have a Comparative Political Systems midterm and paper due tomorrow, and they may be the death of me... so good night, send positive vibes to Washington DC tomorrow afternoon!

bright colors

Tea n Rose Blouse; J. Crew skirt; Minnetonka Moccasin moccasins

As Nicole was taking these pictures on our way back from the dining hall, she said that they were a bit grainy - now that I'm back in the room and looking through the photos I realize that it is because, once again, we forgot to check the settings before we took the photos. So once again you get some unfortunately-textured pictures (not to fault my lovely photographer and roommate)

But another note - how bright is the shirt I'm wearing right now?! Aren't you all proud? I mean, it was a Christmas present from my sister and I probably would never have taken something that bright off the racks but - as we've seen with my seafoam blouse - give me color in oversized, sheer blouse format and I can't help but like it!

In other news, it was absolutely gorgeous today in DC (as in, 60 degrees gorgeous) and I walked to Safeway for the first time this year! Highlight of the trip? The french bread and nutella I bought for myself - now if only Nicole would get back to the room for our late-night TV-and-snack time, it would be a perfect day! Good night all :)

home for christmas

Wow. Just wow. This may actually be the worst I've ever done at blogging - barring the whole broken foot fiasco last semester that is (fiasco is a nice word for it, doesn't even begin to cover all the issues...). Point is, it's been over a week since I last posted, and I looked so cute this past week! I mean, it was finals week, but I was a very well-dressed college student in finals, if I do say so myself. These are pictures from yesterday, my first full day back at home!

Another sweater stolen from dad! Well, this one was already stolen by mom, who gave it to me when I was rummaging around in her closet for a cardigan (its' cotton, so she knew it would be perfect). And surprisingly, it's really not too light for the weather we've been having lately - as in, there's no snow. As in, no white Christmas for Alison? I'm kind of in shock. Why else do I live in Minnesota?

The puppies wanted to join in the photo shoot - we have Tilly, our old labradoodle to the left, and Sophie, my aunt's little dog (can't remember what she is again?) on the right.  Look how fluffy she is! Basically her winter coat makes her look ridiculously chubby, and I love it.

Now that I'm home from finals, it finally seems like the Christmas season! As evidenced by the little gingerbread man I've so awkwardly posed with? It's been really lovely to be home. Yesterday, Natalie and Mckenna and I went out and about for a little vintage shopping, and I found some adorable new pieces! Will probably make an entire outfit around them for tomorrow, so clearly I can't wait to show them off... Now I need to go make myself some breakfast before yoga, hope you are all having a lovely week!

odds and ends

Why is everyone leaving/studying for finals/taking finals and not here to take my pictures?! Leave me alone and this is what you end up with...

My lovely new Minnetonka Moccasin boots - if I wear them with a dress they don't make my legs look as stubby! Quite the ringing endorsement, right?

My pendant and close-up of the pattern of my vintage dress. And yes, below is a camera-in-front-of-the-mirror photo. Yes, I did just die a little inside. But I'm dressed so nicely for finals and wanted everyone to see! Actually I'm not really dressed for finals, since today I did no studying whatsoever. Turned in my papers and now I have a break until Saturday! Which would be exciting if, I don't know, I could spend that break at home? But no, no going there until Tuesday...

One more random thing, don't think I've shown you this -  it's actually another one of my purchases from my Columbus Day weekend in New York? Yes I know I'm behind. It's actually pretty light, perfect for the 50's and 40's we're having right now (I know. Not real December) if I want to be a little nicer than my Northface.

Less than two weeks until Christmas! Can you believe how quickly this year went by? I'm slowly starting to realize that I'm halfway done with my second year of college, and kind of starting to freak out... Regardless, have a lovely evening everyone!

happy black friday everyone!

And, I suppose... happy thanksgiving! I actually would've made that the title, if it was still technically correct. However, my black Friday shopping kind of got in the way of that. Did you know I'd actually never gone black Friday shopping before today of course you wouldn't know that? But my friend Jenny wanted me to come with and I thought, why not? It was an experience that's for sure...

all saints blouse
j.crew cardigan and skirt

So this lovely little photoshoot was taken outside my Grandma's house yesterday, pre-dinner. And thank god it was... I ate so much! Jenny came and picked us up around 8 to head out so I changed into skinny jeans and a tshirt for easier shopping, and can I tell you - my jeans were not that happy that about that third slice of cake I had (but can you blame me? Look down to the bottom of the post for the cake Natalie baked and tell tell me you could resist that)

So I'm loving my new boots! Picked them up at Off Saks on Wednesday at 40% off, and they are already fitting in with my wardrobe perfectly! Only problem is, I think they make my legs look stumpy when I wear them with jeans... Not quite sure what to do about this, since I wear skinny jeans oh, 90% of the time? But I figure, I also wear tights and skirts a lot. And I have pretty long legs - so I can afford to make them look a bit shorter? (That's probably really bad reasoning I know...)

So it's been a while since I've posted - you haven't even heard my airport hell story! That's just not acceptable, and even though I probably shouldn't tell it because it makes me sound extremely stupid, I will tell it anyways. Because it's funny. So here you go: I woke up at 6:50 Tuesday morning, got myself to the airport, and was sitting in the terminal by 8:10 for my 9:30 flight. Then the flight got delayed until 10:15 and my gate was really busy, so I went to sit across the hall and wait for it to get called. Then around 9:50/9:55 I walked over to the gate to see - flight to Philadelphia is closed. Excuse me, what? I run downstairs to the gate, where the lady tells me: "they called you by name honey, but you didn't come! The plane left without you" - I literally died, right there. Like started hyperventilating, crying, almost passed out... It was ugly. I had to go talk to a gate agent, and since I would have missed my connection in Philadelphia anyways, they were quite helpful on getting me on other flights. This story is getting pretty long and you got the funny part, so here's the gist: I think I am the only person in the world to miss their plane while sitting at the gate, and I didn't get home until 9pm, (and my luggage didn't get here until the next morning). And I am an idiot. The end.

Hope you all had a lovely Turkey day and, if unlike me and you can still handle the sight of food, here is a photo of my amazing sister's even-more-amazing cake:

p.s. Lies about the whole me not being able to look at food anymore thing - I'm going to go eat some cake for breakfast now :)
